Attending the National Education Summit will provide self-identified professional development addressing the following Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining

STATE AND TERRITORY PD REQUIREMENTS FOR TEACHERS

QUEENSLAND

You must complete at least 20 hours of CPD for any calendar year in which you teach 20 days or more. There is no CPD requirement for any year in which you teach fewer than 20 days.

NEW SOUTH WALES

Maintenance of accreditation requires a teacher to demonstrate how their practice continues to meet the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (the Standards) at the relevant career stage.

Each maintenance period is either 5 years for teachers working full-time or 7 years for teachers working part-time or casual.

Teachers must complete at least 100 hours of professional development (PD) in each maintenance period to support their practice and ongoing professional growth.

NORTHERN TERRITORY

Teachers who continue to be eligible for registration and have complied with any conditions imposed on their registration will be granted registration renewal.

Professional Development requirements include 100 hours minimum of a broad range of professional development activities across the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers or the Australian Professional Standard for Principals, within the preceding five year period.

AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY

To maintain ongoing registration you must:

  • record and reflect on 20 hours of professional learning each year in the TQI Teacher Portal

VICTORIA

We require you to undertake specific professional practice activities so you can maintain your registration. Twenty hours of PD must be completed within each registration year.

Special Needs Plan

As part of the government Special Needs Plan, teachers are now required to build their capacity to teach learners with disability.

You have previously undertaken Special Needs PD to renew your registration. You are encouraged to continue that development.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA

All registered teachers need to meet the renewal requirements to be eligible for renewal. 

South Australian teachers are required to complete a minimum of 60 hours of professional learning referenced to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and recorded this learning on the Teachers Portal.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA

It is a requirement of teacher registration that a teacher completes sufficient professional learning to maintain the currency of their professional competence.

The minimum number of hours of professional learning activities that will be required for the renewal of teacher registration are as follows:

  • Full Registration - 100 hours

  • Limited or Provisional Registration granted for 3 years - 60 hours

  • Limited or Provisional Registration granted for less than 3 years. Calculated on a pro rata basis for the period since the registration was last granted or renewed, to the date of application at the rate of 20 hours for each year

TASMANIA

Any person wanting to teach in a Tasmanian school, college or the TasTAFE must have registration or a limited authority to teach (LAT).  

Registered teachers in Tasmania must ensure they continue to participate in professional learning to build knowledge, skill and competence.

Once you are a fully certificated teacher you need to renew your practising certificate every three years. To renew your registration you need to have completed satisfactory professional development within the last three years.
